Phil joined Hungerford in January, 1998 as Shareholder In Charge of Governmental Services after operating as a partner and owner of an independent Grand Rapids CPA firm for thirty years. Phil earned his Bachelors degree from Aquinas College and his Master's degree from Western Michigan University and specializes in auditing and consulting services for governmental units, mainly school districts and townships. His internal firm responsibilities include chairing the Technology Committee which helps keep the firm proficient in the constantly changing data processing environment. Phil works actively with the American School Business Officials and Michigan Government Finance Officers Association on their respective Accounting and Auditing Standards Committees.

Phil is married and has four children: two daughters and two sons. He and his wife Jane (who also works at Hungerford as a governmental audit consultant) enjoy watching their children's activities (tennis, baseball and playing various percussion instruments), movies (old and new), and sitting on the Florida and Michigan beaches just watching the waves roll in (and out).
