Seminar Benefits Area Service Organization

Once again Hungerford's Annual Update for Accountants seminar supported a very worthy cause. As in the past, in lieu of a registration fee, attendees contributed either items or a check to our charity. This year's recipient was Family Promise of Grand Rapids. The organization is dedicated to assisting families in Kent County during temporary periods of homelessness. Their goal is to help those families create an achievable vision for the future and a strong foundation for self-sufficiency. Pictured for the check presentation, with some of the donated items in the background, are Cheryl Schuch (right), Executive Director of Family Promise, Hungerford Shareholder Jerry Nichols (left), and our own Corey "Santa" Balkon. Thanks again to our seminar attendees for your generous donations.
Hungerford Participates in United Way's ‘Day of Caring'
At this year's United Way "Day of Caring" we put together three teams to help improve our community. First, we helped clean up and re-establish rocks in two river beds, did some weeding, and planted additional foliage for the Gilda's Club of Grand Rapids Rain Forest Restoration Project. Next, one of our Hungerford teams spread wood chips as well as some general yard clean-up and weeding at Spectrum Health Nursing & Rehab on Kalamazoo Avenue, SE. And finally, we did some painting and gardening work at the Senior Neighbors location in Lowell. Day of Caring is one of the events we've supported for years and we're happy to join the United Way in helping to make our community a better place to live and work.
Hungerford Supports 'Walk to Cure Diabetes'
The Hungerford, Aldrin, Nichols & Carter team raised $2,100 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Walk to Cure Diabetes in September. The firm has now raised more than $20,000 in the last eight years for this very worthy cause. The new technology that is available and all of the research is really paying off for younger generations.
Hungerford's GVSU Alums Step Up
Some of our proud GVSU alumni recently took part in an annual event called Community Outreach Week. GVSU partners with alumni around the country to do service learning projects. This year, Hungerford took part in one of the 54 projects that took place around the country. Our team helped Very Special Arts prepare for an upcoming move. VSA is an organization that specializes in arts programs in the Grand Rapids area for developmentally disabled children and adults.
Firm Pledges Support for GVSU
Hungerford, Aldrin, Nichols & Carter has launched a matching gift fundraising campaign to support Grand Valley State University's new William Seidman Center, a cornerstone of the school's Seidman College of Business. Grand Valley has raised $20 million of the $25 million necessary from private funds. Hungerford has undertaken a fundraising effort within the firm with a goal of raising $50,000 over the next five years.
